Oh, you just brought a wee little fluffy bundle of crazy and cuddles into your life! Many congratulations on your newest forever family member! Let’s start your kitty off right with a nose-to tail examination and develop a protocol of care and vaccinations tailored just for your baby!
Caring For Your New Kitten
During your kitten’s first appointment, one of our gentle veterinarians will discuss your cat’s medical needs with you and develop a care plan tailored specifically for your cat.
We will also conduct a thorough physical examination, collect a stool sample to check for parasites, and recommend feline leukemia (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) testing for all kittens to help establish a healthy baseline. For cats that spend time outdoors or have exposure to other cats, yearly FeLV/FIV testing may also be recommended. We will also discuss the following components of your kitten’s care:
Vaccinations
Parasite testing and prevention
Litter box training
Spay/neuter surgery
Any necessary blood tests
Nutrition and exercise
Socializing your cat with other family members
We are honored to help cat owners care for their new companions during this extra special stage of life.
Spay/Neuter Procedure
We recommend all our patients undergo the spay or neuter procedure. In addition to preventing unwanted litters, spaying or neutering your cat has many health benefits. For female cats, spaying prevents mammary and ovarian cancers, while for male cats, neutering minimizes the risk of testicular and prostate cancers. The procedure also reduces sexual instincts that lead to unwanted behaviors, such as aggressive behavior, roaming, and spraying.
